Wildlife Week 2025 Celebrations at the School of Environmental Studies, CUSAT

The School of Environmental Studies (SES), CUSAT successfully organized Wildlife Week 2025 from 8th to 10th October 2025, marking a vibrant three-day celebration dedicated to biodiversity, wildlife conservation, and human–wildlife coexistence. The event brought together academicians, researchers, students, and conservation practitioners to engage in a series of thought-provoking sessions, competitions, and community-oriented activities.

Day 1: Inaugural Ceremony

The celebrations commenced with an inaugural session graced by Prof. (Dr.) Junaid Bushiri, Vice-Chancellor of CUSAT, and Prof. (Dr.) Suja P. Devipriya, Director of SES, who delivered inspiring addresses emphasizing the importance of wildlife conservation in the era of rapid environmental change. Felicitation speeches by faculty members followed, appreciating the collaborative spirit of the event.
The Guest of Honour, Mr. P. S. Easa, renowned wildlife biologist and expert in Asian elephant ecology and human–animal conflict, delivered a keynote address that highlighted pressing challenges in wildlife management and the need for community participation in conservation efforts.

Day 2: Competitions and Student Engagement

The second day was marked by lively participation in a range of creative and knowledge-based competitions. The Wildlife Quiz and Face-painting events in the morning showcased the students’ enthusiasm and awareness of biodiversity. In the afternoon, an engaging Treasure Hunt inspired teamwork and environmental curiosity among participants.

Day 3: Symposium and Valedictory

The final day featured an academic symposium and thematic sessions where participants shared research perspectives and conservation experiences. The event concluded with a valedictory ceremony in the afternoon, recognizing the winners of various competitions and celebrating collective efforts toward wildlife awareness.

Throughout the week, online creative contests—including poster making, poem writing, photography, illustration, and short film/documentary competitions—encouraged wider participation and artistic expression around the theme of wildlife conservation.

The Wildlife Week 2025 celebrations at SES, CUSAT, successfully combined education, creativity, and community engagement, reinforcing the university’s commitment to fostering environmental awareness and stewardship among future generations.
